“Tigers class (Beginners 4 - 7 years)

GOAL - Co-ordination, Confidence, Concentration & FUN!!!

The Whitsunday Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan “White Tigers” beginner class differs slightly from the standard Taekwondo classes in that we focus more on children’s co-ordination, confidence and concentration.

This class is great fun and covers basic blocking and kicking, “quick escape” self defence as well as builds flexibility, balance and body strength. We also practice non-contact sparring which gives the kids a chance to put into practice their newfound skills.

There are three levels in this program and each one is displayed by stripes on their white belts. These stages help children to build confidence by different challenges to achieve the levels, and prepare them to enter the advanced “Yellow Tigers” class.

“Juniors” Class (7 to 12 years)

GOAL - Discipline, Respect, Courage - and achieving a Junior Black Belt

Whitsun2012_Junior_Yellowsday Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan “Juniors” class is designed to get your child to the level of a world recognised Junior Black Belt (Poom) as well as developing effective and usable self defence skills.

Through this program we can help your child from the beginning basics right up to the level of Black Belt via 10 stages. Each stage or level is displayed by a different belt colour and sub-stages of each coloured belt by stripes. The 10 steps help children to understand that any great achievement takes time and is easier to achieve in smaller stages.

The syllabus covers blocking, striking, kicking, takedowns, chokes, joint locks, multiple attacker defence and weapon disarming at higher levels. Non-contact sparring is included so as to allow the students to put into practice what they have learned. There are also options to compete in various levels of sport taekwondo as well as martial arts and self defence demonstrations.

Training in the “Juniors” classes will take your child on a journey of self development that will see many positive changes. Our program will help keep kids healthy, fit and flexible, feeling stronger and more confident to tackle life’s challenges. With regular training, you will find the following improvements in your child:-

Respect - is developed through the “bow” greeting process. In class bowing is a sign of respect and will also be returned with a bow. One earns respect by giving respect as it is earned.

Confidence - The ability to be able to protect oneself and accomplish tasks has an amazing effect on our self confidence. This feeling also enables us to step up and take on other challenges.

Courage - is built by the different challenges to achieve levels, overcoming the nerves of belt examinations (gradings), competitions or public demonstrations (optional).

Focus - Training greatly improves our concentration and focus. Concentration and awareness is required for striking and kicking targets, reaction drills further engage children to use their focus and co-ordination.

Patience - Teaching children about delayed gratification is an important lesson in life. Any great achievement will not happen overnight and takes patience, discipline and practise. Your child will learn about the importance of patience when training.

Discipline - A Black Belt (like any of life’s great achievements) can only be achieved through consistent practice and the ability to keep going on our goals.

“Seniors Class” (13 years and over)

GOAL - Self Defence, Confidence, Patience – and achieving a Black Belt

Whitsunday Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan “Seniors” class is designed to get you to the level of a world recognised Black Belt as well as developing effective and usable self defence skills.

2012-Bowie_and_Ayeesha

Through this program we can help you from the beginning basics right up to the level of Black Belt via 10 stages. Each stage or level is displayed by a different belt colour and sub-stages of each coloured belt by stripes. It is said “The thousand mile journey begins with a single step” and the journey to your Black Belt will take you 10 small steps or belt levels.

With regular training, not only you will find an improvement in Courage, Respect, Confidence, Discipline, Patience and Focus, but training is also great for:-

Your Own Personal Quest - Do something for yourself, it’s an achievable goal and one you will be continually proud of all your life. It will take up a couple of hours a week and is a discipline that has multiple physical and mental rewards. We will guide and develop you all the way, and even take you beyond Black Belt if you so wish.

Release Stress - Training with us will allow a “distraction” from the daily grind, with physically and mentally stimulating exercises that keep you feeling more alert and feeling great.

Feel Better - Combined with having fun, doing a form of “Active Meditation” to escape, Taekwondo will release the body’s positive endorphins associated with exercise. You’ll feel great and make your 30 minutes of exercise a day have purpose and a greater goal.

Increase Movement - Taekwondo uses a full range of the body’s movements and has a full stretching system that not only prepares the body to exercise but also increases natural flexibility levels.

Confidence Booster - Nothing makes you feel better than releasing energy with kicking and punching targets. You’ll feel pumped up, charged by the realisation of how strong you can be if needed. It’s a great release after that challenging day or annoying person you have to deal with.
